Of the Month Awards

One of the many services of NACURH, Inc. is the 'Of the Month' Award, which is administered through the National Residence Hall Honorary. The 'Of the Month' process recognizes outstanding contributions to College and University Residence Halls in the following categories:

General

Advisor: Advisors need to create a supportive environment for the student leaders they advise. The focus of the Advisor OTM should be based on the impact s/he makes in the lives of students. Personal examples are often the best way to express the intangible contributions of an advisor. The nomination should display how the advisor was instrumental in helping the leaders they work with grow, learn, and develop.

Desk Attendant: This award is designed to recognize an employee that works the hall desk and does an exceptional job. To present this award, it must be month specific while providing details that show that the individual goes above and beyond the job expectations.

Faculty/Staff: In this category, you have the opportunity to nominate outstanding faculty and staff members for their contributions to the students and/or residence halls. You can nominate your professor for their work in the classroom. You can also nominate people in offices across campuses that have done an excellent job in their position.

Organization: This category is to recognize an outstanding organization, not an outstanding member of the organization. Nominations should be organization specific and not concentrate on the efforts of a few individuals. Review the purpose and goals of NRHH and your organization before writing the nomination.

Student: This category is intended for a student leader who puts forth special efforts during the month of the nomination. Possible things to include in the nomination could be leadership development, contribution to the people in her/his community, and his/her activities. Please note that campus-wide executive board members, and RA/SA's are not eligible for this award.

Community: This award is designed to recognize the contributions of residential life communities and the impact they have on their students and the rest of campus. The residence halls are a place for people to come together and create a community where individuals can work together to improve not only themselves, but also each other. The community OTM is designed to reward these communities and to show them that their efforts and dedication has not gone unnoticed. Since a community is difficult to define, any residential life unit is eligible for this award. For example: houses, floors, complexes, etc.

Executive Board Member: Be sure the person you are nominating for this award is eligible to receive it. The nominee needs to be from a campus wide residence hall governing body. Bring out the nominee's special efforts, not just fulfilling the job requirements of the position.

First Year Student: This category recognizes first year student leaders who excels during their month of nomination. RHA and NRHH Executives, Advisors, Resident Assistants and Resident Hall Directors are NOT eligible for this award category. Nominees must be in their FIRST YEAR of living on campus.

Spotlight: This category is to recognize the efforts of people who do not fall into any other categories; therefore, the nominee cannot be an advisor, executive board member, resident or RA/SA, or student. Possible nominees could be food service personnel, reception desk staff, or custodial staff. Please include how this person/group has helped an individual or contributed to the well being of the community.

Student Advisor: Include the job requirements and show how the nominee has gone above and beyond those requirements. Think about how well the RA/SA works with residents and what impact s/he has had during the month of the nomination.
